Ackworth Gala

The first Ackworth Gala was held in 1977 to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee.

This turned into an annual event and there has been a gala each June at Carr Bridge Playing Field ever since. Comprising of a parade, arena events, fundraising stalls and activities for the children, the event is always popular and well attended.

This year's event took place on Saturday 24 June. Stalls were provided free of charge to local community groups and charities.  Local businesses were also able to apply for a stall at a cost of £20.  If you would like to be considered for a stall for next year's event please use the "Contact Us" page and we will get back to you.

This year Pedal Power vs Parkour put on a fantastic arena display which combined the incredible skill, balance and power of a trials rider and the finesse of a gymnast / parkour athlete.  Both athletes put it all on the line in an attempt to become the crowds' favourite.   Also in the arena were displays from Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers and local dance group CG Dance Academy.

The parade left the Tarmac depot at noon, arriving at Carr Bridge at approx 12.30.  Cllr Sarah Balfour officially opened the gala when she crowned this year's Gala Queen.   A huge display of brilliant Disney themed fancy dress was on display, well done to everyone who took part.  Many thousands of pounds was raised for good causes from the fundraising stalls, over 30 attended.
