SERVICES

Ackworth Parish Council provides the following services to the village:

The Council Office situated in the Parish Council Community Centre, Bell Lane, Ackworth, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF7 7JH.

The Office is open to members of the public Monday to Friday 10 am to 12 noon or by appointment with the Clerk.

Brackenhill Allotments – Brackenhill Allotment Association administer and runs these allotments on behalf of the Parish Council. There are 72 gardens, which are all currently let.

If you wish to apply for a garden please contact the Clerk Mrs Sue Templeman clerk@ackworthparishcouncil.gov.uk and you will be placed on the waiting list.

Cemetery – Ackworth Cemetery was first opened in 1941. The first burial took place in August 1941.  The field at the side of the Cemetery has in the last few years has been grassed over in preparation for use as burial ground.  This year a hedge will be planted and further preparations take place with a view to this being used in the next 3 years.

The Cemetery is open to members of the public between 1st April and 30th September from 8 am; and between 1st October until 31st March from 9 am until sunset. Children under 10 are not admitted unless in the care of a responsible person.

The Cemetery charges are split into two categories – resident’s fees and non-resident fees.  The formula used to work out the fees is; resident’s fees are 60% of Wakefield MDC Cemetery fees and non-residents fees are 20% above Wakefield MDC fees.  A resident is some one who has lived in the village for at least a year and has paid a full years council tax.

Community Centre – Ackworth Parish Council Community Centre (formally known as the Parish Rooms), Bell Lane, Ackworth was refurbished and extended in 2002. Many local groups and societies use the rooms for their meetings, find below a list of current groups:

The Library - opened following complete refurbishment in July 2004, it is situated at the rear of the building and has full library facilities – computers with Internet facility, books, DVD’s and much more. Opening times are:

Tuesday and Thursday 14.00 – 19.00
Saturday09.00- 13.00

Playing Fields and Changing Rooms - The Parish Council has responsibility for Brackenhill playing field, Dicky Sykes Lane, Carr Bridge playing field, Barnsley Road and Low Ackworth playing field, Station Road.  The pitches on the fields are currently over subscribed – currently there are 3 senior football teams playing on Carr Bridge:

Ackworth Junior FC – under 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s, play on various pitches on all of the fields.  Their under 15’s team currently play in Purston Park due to lack of availability of a pitch in Ackworth.

The portable buildings on Carr Bridge field are temporarily providing changing rooms, showers and toilet facilities, as the old changing rooms on Barnsley Road (formerly the Doctors Surgery) have been demolished.

Planning permission has been granted for a replacement building on this site. Ackworth Community Development Limited has recently leased the site from the Parish Council with a view to obtaining funding from various sources to complete the project.
