The pumpkin weigh‑in at Brackenhill Allotments is always an exciting celebration, and this year was no exception. Following a very successful planting event earlier in the year, we were delighted to welcome an increased number of participants and to see so many families return for the final weigh‑in.
Pumpkins arrived by car and wheelbarrow, with growers proudly showing off their achievements. There were pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, from tiny to enormous giants, in a wonderful variety of colours and textures.
While everyone gathered, children enjoyed crafts and refreshments, decorating biscuits and creating spooky spiders. Once all the pumpkins had arrived, we headed outside for the all‑important weigh‑in.
This year’s smallest pumpkin weighed just 300 grams, while the largest tipped the scales at an impressive 35 kilograms! Some of the biggest pumpkins even required a couple of adults to help lift them onto the scales.
Well done to all the families who took part in the celebration, and a special shout‑out to the children from The Howard School, who grew a particularly impressive pumpkin.
A huge thank you, as always, to the Brackenhill Allotments Association for their hard work and dedication in organising both the planting event and the weigh‑in, helping to make them such enjoyable and memorable occasions for everyone involved.
