The Parish Council has overall responsibility for the well-being of the local community.

Its particular responsibilities include the cemetery, the sports fields and playground equipment at Low Ackworth, Brackenhill and Carr Bridge including the new Pavilion, The Green at High Ackworth, Brackenhill Allotments, Brackenhill Community Centre and the Parish Council Community Centre on Bell Lane.
